How hosting works

Tree-Plenish will build you a custom event website, order form, and dashboard to track your event progress. We will source and ship your trees using our national network of tree nursery partnerships. We will have synchronous Zoom meetings and asynchronous check-ins. All of this will be organized through the modules on our online training course that will guide you through the entire process. Here’s an overview of each module:

Plan Fall
Module 01

Introduction

Get an overview of the process and the resources that are available to you. You will learn how to navigate the modules, communicate with the Tree-Plenish team, and prepare for the planning process.

Module 02

Logistics

This is where you will decide and tell our team the key logistical details about your event. With much help from our team, you will choose an event date. Based on your school’s annual carbon footprint, you will choose a goal for the number of saplings you want to plant. Lastly, you will select the species you want to offer from our list of native species options.

Promote Winter
Module 03

Sponsorships

Here, you can reach out to sponsors to help fund your event. This step is optional. Remember — as event hosts, you do not need to pay to host the event. Residents of your community will purchase saplings from your event ($5–$10 per sapling). Sponsorships from local businesses can make your saplings free for residents.

Module 04

Marketing

This is the most important step and will be where you spend most of your time. Using the custom website, tree order form, and volunteer sign up form we build for you, you will promote your event to residents in order to reach your sapling goal. We will provide many outreach materials and marketing advice to help you.

Host Spring
Module 05

Day of Event

All of your hard work pays off on the day of the event! We will ship you your saplings and provide instructions on how to set up on the day of your event. Your event volunteers will plant the saplings in the yards of the residents who purchased them. See your community come together around this shared goal of sustainability!

Frequently asked questions

Common questions from schools considering their first Tree-Plenish event.

Do I need to pay to host an event?

No. There is no cost to your school to host a Tree-Plenish event. Residents in your community will pay to purchase tree saplings from your event ($5–$10). We will handle all the finances, so you won’t have to deal with collecting money or paying for saplings. You can make the trees free for your community by recruiting local sponsors. If cost is a problem for members of your community, let us know! Tree-Plenish has an environmental equity fund that can cover the cost of your saplings.

Do I need to source the trees myself?

No. Tree-Plenish works with our national network of tree nursery partners to ship saplings to your school ahead of planting day. You focus on planning and running the event—we handle the tree sourcing and delivery logistics.

Who can host an event?

You can be an individual student, teacher, school club, or just a group of friends—we’re happy to work with any motivated team that is affiliated with a school or local community organization.

How much time does planning take?

Planning runs through the school year, with the heaviest outreach in winter and the event in spring. Most teams spend a few hours per week during peak planning, with more time around planting day.

What support does Tree-Plenish provide?

We are right there with you throughout the entire planning process.

How do I sign up to host?

Start with the 2026–27 interest form. We’ll reach out to schedule a meeting, answer your questions, and walk through the process. Schools can formally sign up to work with us only after that conversation.

Can I plant trees in the fall?

No. Tree-Plenish events take place in the spring and the planning occurs in the fall and winter.

Where do the trees get planted?

Tree-Plenish events typically plant saplings in the yards of residents of their community. Occasionally, they will also plant on the property of their school, local business, and parks. During the winter, schools will use their custom event website to market their event to their community. Residents will sign up to receive saplings in their yard.

What tree species do you plant?

During the planning phase, schools can select species from a pre-curated list of native species that we offer. Tree-Plenish provides training to schools on how to select species that will thrive in their local environment. Each event typically plants three species.

How many trees does each event plant?

Each event will set their own sapling goal at the beginning of the year that is based both on their school’s energy consumption and feasibility. There is significant variation in this goal across schools. On average, schools plant around 200 saplings but some plant as many as 1,000.
